Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has good perspectives, to work at least till 2026
Upgrading of 2d energy bloc of Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant and the prolongation of its operation term are one of the priorities of the ANPP, consultant to ANPP director Gera Savikyan said at a discussion today on nuclear energy development prospects in Armenia.
She said wide-scale works have already been carried out, over 1,000 tons of equipment have been installed. Works on installation of second turbo generator will be carried out.
“In the end of the wide-scale project Armenia will have a more powerful nuclear power plant and its safety will correspond to the international criteria,” she said.
At the discussion a number of experts noted that the development of nuclear energy is an axiom for Armenia’s strategic development and time has come to carry out preparatory works.
Head of department at Armenia’s Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Ministry Artem Petrosyan attached significance to the discussion, noting that it is aimed at revealing the prospects of empowering the sector.
Head of the Russian side of the project on prolonging the activity of the plant Vladimir Bredov told the reporters that the Russian side does everything to equip the plant with all the best equipment.
“Armenian nuclear power plant has very good perspectives. It will work at least till 2026. Our issue is to equip it with the newest and best devices which we are doing,” he said.
