Issue on cutting mandatory service term of conscripts involved in military duty discussed
Armenia’s Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan noted today at the cabinet sitting that they are discussing the issue on cutting the 24-month-long mandatory service term of conscripts implementing military duty and prolonging the one who do not.
Speaking to Aysor.am, deputy defense minister Gabriel Balayan said discussions are being held over such possibility.
“The issue is in the stage of discussion. We are discussing the following: if the health condition of the person allows him to be involved in military duty is there a possibility to cut his 24-month-long service and prolong the time of service of those who are not being involved in the military duty?” he said, adding that currently though they do not have the opportunity to do it.
He said the issue needs objective and subjective studies, assessments and if it reaches the level of becoming a legislative initiative, the public will be informed about it.
