No serious changes to take place in the region after U.S. President’s statement about Golan Heights: expert
No serious changes will take place after statement of U.S. President Donald Trump about recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory, as the position of this country toward Israel has not changed, expert in international relations, political analyst Suren Sargsyan said, speaking to Aysor.am.
The two countries have military-political allied relations. With the request of Israel the United States recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“The position of the United States is not a novelty for the regional players, thus the U.S. statement will not have a serious geopolitical or military political impact. Syria cannot say anything as the situation is what we have now,” the expert said.
Referring to the Iranian factor, Sargsyan said that the reduction of Iran’s role is of strategic significance for the USA and Israel.
“This is a consistent work carried out by the two counties and this unity will move them forward. They two consider Iran their number one target.
The whole policy of the two is aimed at weakening this target. This is a step to ensure Israel’s physical security,” the political analyst concluded.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that time has come to recognize Golan Heights part of Israel.
He said they are of extreme strategic significance and are important for the security of Israeli state and the region.
Israeli PM thanked Trump for the readiness.
