Import of wiretapping devices to Armenia hence banned by law
Hence it is impossible to import devices to Armenia envisaged for secret wiretapping, National Security Service director Artur Vanetsyan said at the session of the NA Defense and Security Affairs Standing Committee.
Chairman of the Committee Andranik Kocharyan noted that there was time when not only the NSS had an opportunity for wiretapping in Armenia but other state structures and oligarchs.
“This issue is under our limelight. I may convince you that such devices will not be imported to Armenia anymore. It is banned by the law with only structures carrying out operative intelligence activity have authority to import them. Neither customs service nor any other body will allow import of such devices to Armenia,” Vanetsyan said.
He said he cannot say whether previously such devices were imported to Armenia or not.
“All the necessary measures are carried out. We have information which currently is being checked, after concrete results are unveiled, we will immediately inform about it,” the NSS director said.
Referring to the wiretapped conversation with his involvement, Vanetsyan said the examination of the case continues.
“Criminal case has been evoked, and I have signed a document on not unveiling the secrecy of preliminary investigation,” he said.
