Closing doors not criteria for sacking rector: PAP lawmaker

Rector, dean, vice rector are considered hired employees and any disciplinary measures against them, including firing, must fit in the limits of the labor code, PAP lawmaker Gevorg Petrosyan said speaking to Aysor.am.

Referring to Pashinyan’s statement voiced earlier that in new Armenia rectors who closed doors before students must have no place, Petrosyan said, “If the rector closed the doors for the activists not to enter the university to prevent possible clashes between young people having different views, it is not a ground to get rid of the rector. We have other criteria to assess the work of rectors than closing or opening doors.”

As to whether such statements may be viewed as attempts to politicize the higher educational establishments, Petrosyan said this is an attempt by Pashinyan or others to make political reclassifications.

“But I must say that reasonable, wise solutions must be given not to worsen the situation,” the lawmaker said.
