Armenia’s Attorney General to probably attend March 1 case trials
Armenia’s Attorney General will more probably be state prosecutor at the trials of ex-officials passing as defendants in March 1 criminal case.
“Everything is possible,” the Attorney General Artur Davtyan told the reports in the NA, asked about the possibility to participate in the trials of former president Robert Kocharyan and other ex-officials.
Referring to the March 1 criminal case and the statement of Prime Minister Pashinyan that the case has been revealed, Davtyan said he would refrain from giving such assessment and added that there are legal procedures that need to be implemented.
Speaking about the dissatisfaction of Kocharyan’s defense team over the not enough time to get familiarized with the materials of the case, Davtyan said that the issue is not in how many pages each lawyer may read but how it will be possible to ensure the legal defense of concrete defendant.
As to the claims of many that “the criminal case is water”, lacking any firm grounds, Davtyan said, “Isn’t it clear that a lawyer cannot say what a substantiated accusation it is?!. It is clear that the defense, in its turn, considers its arguments very substantiated. That is why a mechanism has been created allowing all the parties to present their arguments in court. ”
