Artsakh’s participation in negotiations necessary for reaching final comprehensive conflict settlement: Artsakh president’s spokesperson
Meetings are important as they contribute to the preservation of peace in the region, but for registering progress in the negotiations it is necessary to restore the full format, spokesperson for Artsakh president Davit Babayan told Aysor.am, referring to Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting in Vienna.
“We have always attached significance to such meetings as they first of all contribute to the preservation of peace and stability in the region and naturally to the continuity of negotiation process. The continuation of talks may too be considered progress in the Azerbaijani-Karabakhi conflict settlement process but for noticeable steps we first of all must restore the full negotiation format with the participation of Artsakh,” he said, adding that only in such case comprehensive regulation and establishment of final peace may be expected.
As to the statement of the Armenian leadership that before the full restoration of the negotiation format it will inform official Stepanakert about the whole process, the spokesperson said that before the departure a phone conversation took place between Bako Sahakyan and Nikol Pashinyan.
“We are periodically being informed about the developments but it is not a legal and political category. The legal and political category is the restoration of full format of the negotiations because if we are not participating, irrespective of whether we are aware of the developments or not, it is impossible to reach comprehensive regulation of the conflict,” the spokesperson said.
Babayan also added that Stepanakert is grateful to official Yerevan for permanent discussion of the issue. “But the issue needs legal and political approach, and the official Yerevan is consistent in it and always states about it,” he stressed.
