Karabakh’s involvement in talks discussed in Vienna, consent not reached: Pashinyan
To make Nagorno-Karabakh conflict negotiations more effective it is first of all necessary to forget the old and repeating texts that have already shown their inefficiency, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in live video on Facebook.
He stressed that new approach to the negotiations is necessary.
“We headed to talks in Vienna with the Stepanakert agenda, worked out at the joint session of the Armenian and Artsakh Security Councils. At that session I have said that participation of Artsakh representatives in the talks is very important for us,” Pashinyan said, adding that this is not a demand to change the format of negotiations either it is a caprice, it is just aimed at making the process more effective.
“While stressing Karabakh’s participation in the process we were not putting the issue of change of format,” he said, adding that Artsakh’s participation issue was discussed in Vienna.
“We have seriously grounded the viewpoint. We have not reached agreement, but the issue was neither withdrawn from the discussion,” Pashinyan stressed.
He also said that as a new person, he was to get some explanations regarding Madrid Principles.
“The issue was raised at the discussion with the Azerbaijani president and co-chairs, we have not received answers to our questions as these are quite extended questions and unfortunately cannot be answered during one discussion. In future they will again be referred to by the foreign ministers as instructed by us,” the head of the government said.
The premier also stressed that they have also discussed the issue of preparing the people to peace.
“We have reached certain arrangements to try to carry out number of events in the humanitarian sector that will contribute to peace, creation of positive background for the process,” Pashinyan said.
He said after Karabakh is involved in the negotiation process it will not be perceived as the defeat of the Azerbaijani side.
“No negotiations may be effective if any of the key parties remain out of the process,” the head of the government said.
