USA complements efforts of Russia in Karabakh conflict settlement and not counterbalances: expert
The United States is not trying to counterbalance the efforts of the Russian side but to complement, international right expert, political analyst Suren Sargsyan told Aysor.am, referring to the statement of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister that the U.S. side has offered Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers to hold their next meeting in Washington.
He said it is necessary to remember that not only Russia but the United States as well is OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country.
“We must consider that the OSCE Minsk Group is the exclusive format where the foreign political rivals – the USA and Russia – manage to work effectively. There are no contradictions between the two in this issue. Their perception of the conflict settlement is the same which of course helps the negotiation process,” Sargsyan said, urging not to search for controversies between the two in this regard.
The political analyst said that exchange of information, clarification of positions, coordination of joint activities always take place in the Minsk Group regarding Artsakh conflict.
Earlier Azerbaijani Foreign Minister stated that the United States has offered to conduct the next meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington.
“The recent meeting of the two foreign ministers took place in Moscow at the initiative of the Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. With the doubling of the efforts by Russia a progress may be registered in the Karabakh conflict regulation process. Yesterday we received an invitation from the United States to visit Washington where the Secretary of State will too exert efforts for reaching progress in the Karabakh conflict settlement issue,” Mammadyarov stated.
