Armenia’s PM cannot settle Karabakh conflict on his own: Ruben Rubinyan
Chairman of the NA’s Foreign Relations Standing Committee Ruben Rubinyan says he agrees with the Armenian Prime Minister who states that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be solved by the Armenian people.
“Really there is not a person, or two, or 100 who may sit and decide the fate of the people. It is not logical. In the end, the conflict must be solved by the peoples,” he said, adding that peoples of Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan must reach a consensus over the solution of the issue.
He said there are many mechanisms for the solution of the issue one of which may be referendum.
“There is no doubt that public discourse is necessary over the issue,” he said adding that the conflict is very comprehensive and deeper ideas and thought exist over it.
He stressed that such way of conflict settlement proposed by the PM does not mean that the latter avoids the responsibility.
“The prime minister says a very logical thing. He says, I have no right to decide a fate of a whole nation. Of course he has a responsibility to propose positions, but the final decision is to be made by the people,” Rubinyan said.
As to the content of current negotiations, Rubinyan said that no scenarios of conflict settlement are being discussed now. Currently works are being undertaken to create atmosphere of peace as well as discussions are being held over bringing Karabakh back to the table of negotiations.
“A moment will come, for us as a public, to start understanding what we want. After the issue reaches the content of negotiations, discussions will be held with the people. How did you manage – the premier sits and decides Artsakh issue alone? I, personally, will be against it. This should be a result of pan-national discourse,” the MP said.
