Armenian government to finance Levon Aronyan’s participation in World Chess Cup
Armenian government decided at the cabinet sitting today to allocate money to Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry for it to transfer them to Chess Federation.
The sum will be provided for preparing and ensuring Armenia’s grand master Levon Aronyan in World Chess Cup in 2019.
The ministry will receive over 133,000 USD with that purpose.
Acting sports and youth affairs minister Gabriel Ghazaryan said this is first such precedent when budget means are being allocated for a sportsman.
Pashinyan said that previously such issues were solved via mediation. “It is a very bad mechanism, it brings forth other obligations and privileges.
"Our position must be the following: the sports mission which we will assess of state significance will be financed by the state,” Pashinyan said.
He stressed that Levon Aronyan has an unprecedented contribution to Armenia.
