No political pre-context in any of protracted criminal cases: Artur Davtyan to PAP lawmaker
The noisy criminal cases are being examined for quite a long period of time, Prosperous Armenia faction MP Gevorg Petrosyan said today at the session of State-Legal Affairs Standing Committee where attorney general Artur Davtyan was briefing on 2018 activities.
“Today we are very much interested in sentencing many people accused of crimes, the people want to see the state’s attitude. I do not want to give concrete names, but don’t you think that the noisy trials are lasting for too long giving grounds to think of political pre-context existing in them?” Petrosyan said.
Davtyan admitted the existence of the issue, saying that the examinations of criminal cases by the law enforcers and then by courts last too long and the right of examining the cases in proper period of time is being violated.
“The protraction of each case has its own reasons. One investigator works well, the other acts operatively but the condition of applying expertise is a real issue in our country. We have issue of experts, issue of resources. But I can guarantee that there is no political pre-context in the protractions of any of the cases. We may have unfair investigator, prosecutor but these are individual cases,” Davtyan said.
