Azerbaijanis think of their interests only: political analyst
No matter how much the representatives of the Azerbaijani society state that Nagorno Karabakh issue must be settled in a peaceful way, the dominating conviction in that country is that the Armenian side has “occupied” part of its territory, political analyst Manvel Sargsyan said, referring to the call of the ex Azerbaijani health minister Ali Insanov addressed to Baku to refrain from bellicose rhetoric and undertake practical steps for finding edges for reconciliation.
He said one thing is when certain Azerbaijani figures are voicing peacekeeping calls in press and another thing is when the authorities spread bellicose rhetoric.
“There are people in Azerbaijan who are for peaceful settlement of the conflict. But they are not the majority. The state’s position is that Armenia has “occupied” the Azerbaijani territories, that’s it. I want to say that there are very few people there who will take into consideration Artsakh’s and Armenia’s interests. This is the problem. These people do not recognize any interest but Azerbaijan’s,” Sargsyan said.
“Armenia’s PM says the negotiations may give a result if the issue is settled considering the interests of Artsakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan . While in Azerbaijan no one speaks about it as they all think that the conflict must be settled only considering Azerbaijan’s interests. For them there is only one interest, the others are not important and such atmosphere still dominates in Azerbaijan,” the political analyst said.
