PAP lawmaker’s animal protection bill not included on parliament’s agenda
The bill on making changes in the law on Domestic Animals has not been included in the agenda of the parliament session.
Lawmaker Tigran Urikhanyan who has authored the bill stressed that the initiative is addressed toward protection of animals barbaric attitude.
“For years big sums have been provided for creation of civil and humanitarian conditions, for their sterilization but instead the animals were just gunned down with their corpses being thrown in places available for children,” the lawyer stressed.
The MP also stressed that recently all witnessed how an animal was shot at and mocked in a video placed on the web. “This incident resulted in the intention to author a corresponding bill to ban brutal attitude toward animals,” Urikhanyan said.
Territorial administration, local self-governance, agricultural, nature protection affairs standing committee has given negative conclusion to the bill reasoning it with the preparation of a new separate law addressed toward protection of animals.
Urikhanyan said that it is better to make a small change now and then work on the new law.
Chairman of the commission Varazdat Karapetyan said that a task group has been set up which discusses with the NGOs the issue of the sector.
“We share your concerns but we cannot make additions on the law. We have offered you to participate in the discussions and I hope a new bill will be presented in a month,” Karapetyan said.
