Armenia’s parliament approves bill on changes in government’s structure
The Armenian parliament approved today the bill on making changes in the government’s structure. The bill was backed by My Step faction only.
Lawmaker from Prosperous Armenia faction Mikael Melkumyan stated that the faction was against the bill during its discussion at the first reading and is against it at the second reading as well.
“We stay committed to our principal position because this structure does not give answers to the questions regarding economic revolution in the country and in general to the normalization of the people’s social-economic situation,” Melkumyan said.
Head of Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan stressed that many employees will lose their jobs in the upcoming months which is why they are against the bill.
“We hoped to have constructive work, we have submitted big package of proposals, but the authorities rejected it. I want to inform the citizens that during the summer months a big number of job cuts is expected as a result of the adoption of the bill. These cuts will not be fair. We are voting against the bill, and we are convinced that this structure will not operate long,” Marukyan stated.
Responding to Marukyan, head of the ruling My Step faction Lilit Makunts stated that the package of proposals have not been adopted but separate proposals have been viewed and part of them found their place in the bill.
“My Step faction will back the bill and give its vote of confidence to the government to implement effective work with these structural changes,” Makunts said.
