My Step MP’s call to gather at court is nothing else but a direct call to overthrow constitutional order: Alumyan
Defense team member of Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan Hayk Alumyan convened today an urgent press conference to refer to the Facebook post by NA My Step faction lawmaker Hayk Sargsyan. In the post the lawmaker urged their supporters not to allow change of preventive measure of the person who “occupied Yerevan with tanks, killed ten citizens, distorted the fates of thousands.”
Alumyan stressed that the lawmaker has strictly violated Kocharyan’s presumption of innocence.
“Hayk Sargsyan, being a lawmaker, representative of ruling force, comes up with such statements. What is it, if not a direct, rough pressure on court? Will the claims that pressures on courts are hence excluded in Armenia continue after all this? It is just a fairy-tale,” Hayk Alumyan said.
Kocharyan’s lawyer noted that during the past year the pressures on court have greatly increased.
“Mr Sarkissian, I urge you to implement Your duties as a President that is to ensure the constitutional order. While what Mr Sargsyan has written and what the supporters spread on Facebook is nothing but a direct call to overthrow the constitutional order. In other words it is an attempt of the people to exercise pressure on court to keep Robert Kocharyan in custody,” Alumyan said.
Kocharyan’s lawyer also applied to attorney general to accept the statement as a report about crime and file a criminal case over the fact that a person is trying to exert pressure on court to get the verdict he wants to.
Applying to the police chief Alumyan urged him to undertake measures not to allow the gathering.
Addressing the Prime Minister, Kocharyan’s lawyer said that such statements would not be done unless they receive his approval.
“Mr Prime minister, I urge you not to allow it, to prevent such developments,” Alumyan said.
