Vetting should have been applied year ago: Bright Armenia lawmaker
A strange situation has been created and there are many issues that may be discussed at the NA platform, lawmaker from Bright Armenia faction Mane Tandilyan told the reporters at the NA today, referring to the initiative of their faction to gather signatures for convening extraordinary parliamentary session.
Prosperous Armenia faction lawmakers joined the initiative and the necessary number of signatures for convening the session has been gathered.
The main issue to be discussed is the statement of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the situation in the judicial system.
“In essence, we have not seen any action by the authorities. It is being stated about transitional justice, applying vetting but no steps in that direction were made. The same vetting could have been done immediately the next day after the change of power. It should have been done and then judicial processes should have started,” Tandilyan stressed.
The lawmaker stressed that it is a naivety to think that the judicial system would have changed on its own.
Referring to the call of the PM to block entrances to courts, the lawmaker said, “What has been done may be used against our state for instance at European courts. This was stated by Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer Hayk Alumyan too. I would not like Robert Kocharyan’s case reach the European court and a decision be made against us. We were telling just it. We were urging not to give the triumphant card to Kocharyan’s defense team,” Tandilyan stressed.
