Former high ranking police official arrested in sidelines of March 1 case
Yerevan court of general jurisdiction chaired by judge Gagik Poghosyan upheld the petition of the Special Investigation Committee and decided to arrest former high-ranking police official Gegham Petrosyan charged in the sidelines of March 1 case.
Petrosyan is accused of killing protestor Zakar Hovhannisyan during the March 1 unrest in Yerevan. He is charged with murder.
Petrosyan’s lawyer Vagharshak Gevorgyan earlier stated that his defendant refused to give testimonies and does not admit the charges brought against him.
He also stressed that Petrosyan is accused on the basis of testimony of one witness who said that Zakar Hovhannisyan attacked Petrosyan with a metal pipe and tried to hit him on his head and Petrosyan tried to defend himself and shot Hovhannisyan.
“Either he was to die or shot at Hovhannisian,” Gevorgyan said.
