Kotayk governor spoils elections in Abovian, would better resign: Edmon Marukyan
The low turnover at Abovian municipal elections is rather worrying, head of Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan told the reporters today.
“It shows that after so many changes the Armenian citizens do not value their one vote as necessary,” Marukyan said, assessing the mayoral elections in Abovian.
Referring to the pace of elections and registered results, Marukyan said that elections in any of the towns should not be tied either with revolution or counter-revolution.
At the June 9 municipal elections in Abovian mayor Vahagn Gevorgyan was re-elected with 8,453 votes. He is considered to be sponsored by PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan.
Representative of the ruling force Grigor Gulyan from Civil Contract party received 8,058 votes.
Marukyan said it is wrong to think that the authorities should win in all places. As to whether Gagik Tsarukyan’s factor was decisive in the elections, Marukyan said, “There was assistance, the PAP lawmakers where there, supported. It was to be done so, it is a political process,” Marukyan said.
As to the behavior of the Kotayk governor Romanos Petrosyan, Marukyan stressed, “I think Kotayk governor has spoiled the elections with his behavior, he would better resign. But it is their team, so they are to decide. I think elections should not be treated as matter of life or death.”
