Armenia’s Prosecutor General claims Kocharyan to impede case examination if stays in freedom, has no facts to prove
Armenia’s Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan claims there is a risk of impeding examination by Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan but he cannot present facts.
“Keeping Kocharyan in custody is not a wish of anyone or it is not an end in itself. We all clearly understand what criminal case we are dealing with. You see after 11 years a crime is being revealed. These are interconnected cases, more than 1,000 people have been interrogated in its sidelines, and today we ascribe to defendant Kocharyan a deed in the logic of which these developments took place,” the prosecutor general told the reporters after the court hearing.
He said former high ranking officials were involved in the case together with Kocharyan, so the possibility of influencing the examination is big.
Asked whether he has information that while being in freedom Kocharyan impeded the examination, Davtyan said, “The court wants facts too. No, there are no facts. We say it openly, we do not hide it. Today we do not have facts,” he said, adding that they are speaking of risks.
