No serious expectations from Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting
There are no serious expectations from Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting on June 20, political analyst Tevan Poghosyan said, speaking to Aysor.am.
Poghosyan though said that the conduction of the meeting and discussion of disputable issues is already a positive step.
“If till now we had a situation of peace on the border and it was possible to speak about humanitarian programs and formation of atmosphere of trust, today no favorable atmosphere has been formed ahead of the meeting due to Azerbaijan’s aggression. It is necessary to realize that heading to the meeting in this way will not result in anything positive,” he said, adding that the meeting will take place and before it the Armenian side will conduct discussions with the Artsakh side.
Asked whether Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting will loose the border tension of the past two weeks, Poghisyan said that before every meetings Azerbaijan displays aggressive behavior to show that it heads to talks stronger.
“For me it is of no difference whether it will smooth the situation or not as the Azerbaijani side has made political decision still long ago: it wants only military solution to the Artsakh issue while now it is just winning time,” the political analyst said.
The political analyst also stressed that the peace on the border is ensured by only Armenian and Artsakh armed forces and by nothing else.
The foreign ministers of the two countries are set to meet on June 20 in Washington D.C.
