Salaries of judges to be raised in Armenia: Armenia’s PM
Quick reforms are failed reforms, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated today at the discussion of the report on implementation of 2018 state budget at the National Assembly.
“In early 90s when I was a journalist I followed and saw how brilliant and strategic reforms failed because their authors wanted to implement them as soon as possible. Till today Armenia bears the harshest consequences of non implementation of those reforms,” the Prime Minister said, adding that it is very important not to hurry.
The head of the government pointed to the judicial-legal reforms saying that Armenia cannot have really independent judicial system without raising judge’s salaries 5-6 times.
“Raising salaries of judges today has a number of problems including the perception as well especially in conditions when a number of problems are not solved yet,” he said, voicing hope that international donors will assist Armenia in the issue and the salaries of judges will grow reaching 2,5-3 million AMD.
“It will not have direct impact on the state budget. I am convinced during this period we will manage to settle a number of social issues. Besides both the authorities, the opposition and civil society will get convinced in the necessity of independent judicial system,” Pashinyan said, adding that as a result they will agree to spending about 10 billion AMD from state budget for having free courts.
The head of the government also said that one should not expect solution of all the issues gathered during the 30 years from one-year old government.
