Tension in Georgia to ease after statement about snap parliamentary elections in 2020: expert
The prospect of snap parliamentary elections in Georgia in 2020 will ease the tension in Georgia, expert in Georgian affairs Alik Eroyants told Aysor.am, referring to the statement of the founder of Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili.
“The authorities meet the demand of the opposition and protestors. I do not think the opposition will be against the proposal as it is what they want. In this period the Georgian opposition will have an opportunity to get well prepared to the upcoming elections and the existing tension will ease,” Eroyants said.
He said a constructive pre-election campaign will kick off.
“In reality this is an inner-political fight between the opposition and authorities. We may say that the opposition reached what it wanted and will be successive. Of course, everything will be clearer after elections,” the expert said, adding that opposition has succeeded till now if to consider the resignation that followed the event. Currently they demand resignation of the minister of home affairs.
The Georgian authorities decided to meet the demands of the protestors and conduct parliamentary elections that were due to take place in five years in 2020.
