Karabakh conflict has only political solution: Tusk
Karabakh conflict may be settled only in political way in accordance with the international right and principles, President of the European Council Donald Tusk stated, Interfax reports.
“The European Council supports Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Speaking about regional stability we have also discussed Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. There is no military solution to the issue, there is only political regulation based on international right and principles,” Tusk said, after the talks with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.
“The European Council continues supporting the efforts of the Minsk Group for reaching fair and lasting peace based on principles of Helsinki final act,” the Council of Europe chairman said.
He stressed that Brussels hails the general reduction of tension in the region.
“But as co-chairs we too are concerned with the recent losses on the line of contact. The restriction is as important as the restoration of atmosphere of peace and effective talks. The Council of Europe supports the peace-keeping activities and is ready to promote the clear means addressed toward the preparation of people to peace,” Tusk stated.
