Yerevan and Baku must display restraint and restore peace-promoting atmosphere: CoE chairman
The Council of Europe will continue supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group addressed to finding lasting settlement to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict based on basic principles registered in Helsinki final act, president of the Council of Europe Donald Tusk stated at a joint news conference with Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“The Council of Europe supports the building of peace in the region and is ready to support in preparing peoples to peace,” Tusk said.
He also stressed that the Council of Europe shares the concerns of the Minsk Group regarding the recent losses and statements about the escalation of the situation on the line of contact.
“The parties must display restraint and undertake measures for the restoration of the atmosphere of peace and talks. The conflict does not have military solution we need a political one that will correspond to the international principles and right,” Tusk stated.
