Constitution should not be changed for political purposes: Security Council Secretary
Some circles of Armenia’s experts have not perceived right the messages of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan voiced at Revival Square in Stepanakert, Security Council Secretary Armen Gevorgyan told the reporters today.
Grigoryan said Armenia, as the Prime Minister has stated will be the guarantor of free presidential elections in Stepanakert in 2020.
“We will support conduction of free, fair elections in Artsakh and this will be in our priority list,” Grigoryan said.
Asked how Armenia’s support will be expressed practically Grigoryan said, “The adoption of new Electoral Code in Artsakh is being discussed. We have supported all the process, assisted in creation of mechanism that will ensure conduction of free and fair elections in Artsakh,” Grigoryan stated.
As to the initiative of ex-general Samvel Babayan to change Artsakh’s Constitution, the Security Council Secretary said that it is not right to change Constitution for political goals.
“I have fought during my live against constitutional amendments with political purposes and will never support this initiative,” Grigoryan said.
As to the constitutional amendments in Armenia and setting up a group in 2020 with that purpose, Grigoryan said, “There are issues in Armenia’s justice system for the solution of which constitutional amendments are necessary. The goal of the amendments is to ensure efficiency and high-level work in justice system.”
