Power produced by Sevan-Hrazdan cascade covers about 10% of electricity consumed in Armenia
Upgrading of Sevan-Hrazdan cascade has become one of the resources for overcoming the problems in energy system of Armenia, general director of International Energy Corporation Roman Zohrabyants said.
He said 7 stations are working in the cascade with the set power reaching over 560 megawatt.
“Out stations produce electricity covering about 10% of republic’s consumed electricity,” Zohrabyants said.
He said the importance of the cascade is not only in the generation of electricity, it ensures the irrigation of about 70% of Armenia’s agricultural lands.
The director said the cascade has rich history and the equipment here are rather old and worn out. He though added that since the management of Rushydro a modernization program has been worked out.
“Quite serious investments have been involved, before it the cascade has not seen such modernization, such works were not carried out,” he said, adding that all the equipments have been changed.
Zohrabyants also stressed that during the big accident on July 10 when part of the republic remained without electricity Sevan hydro power plant started restoration of the energy system.
“Thanks to our literate and loyal staff it became possible to operate Sevan hydro power plant and start the restoration of the whole energy system,” he said.
Chief architect of International Energy Corporation company Garegin Baghdasaryan, presenting Argely hydro power plant said it is the most powerful in Armenia having four hydro-aggregates each with 56 megawatt power.
He said it is a very important station for Armenia’s energy system as it manages to keep frequency and in case of fluctuations it manages to regulate it.
He said there are just two such stations in Armenia one being Argely and the second Tatev.
He said the station manages to produce 226 megawatt power in 3 minutes which is 25-30% of production of electricity necessary for Armenia.
