How can mining industry be combined with resort town: Jermuk community head speaks against Amulsar exploitation
Head of Jermuk community Vardan Hovhannisyan who arrived in capital Yerevan to participate in the discussion over Amulsar initiated by Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated after the meeting on Baghramyan 26 that the premier promised a meeting in Jermuk.
“The meeting was short, the prime minister was hurrying for another meeting, but promised to meet in Jermuk for a lasting discussion. I am not an expert, I am not a specialist,” he said.
Hovhannisyan said it was not clearly stressed whether the mine will be exploited or not.
“Discussions will be held,” he said, adding that the residents of Jermuk have different viewpoints over the exploitation of the mine.
As to whether what the majority are for, the head of the community said, naturally the majority are against the exploitation of mine.
Speaking about his own position over the issue, he said he backs his residents.
“I was born in Jermuk resort town, my parents worked in Jermuk resort. It is difficult for us to understand how can mining industry be combined with resort town,” he said.
