No grounds for SRC ex-chairman’s arrest: lawyer

There are no grounds for the arrest of the former chairman of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan, his lawyer Yerem Sargsyan told the reporters late in the evening today.

He said during the search the law enforcers were looking for documents, money but they did not find anything just legal weapon.

“Despite it a protocol has been formed for bringing Khachatryan to the NSS without any need of it,” the lawyer said, adding that he was present at the search from early in the morning.

“There are no grounds for bringing him and arresting. My defendant is accused of apparent deed in 2010, 2012 while being in the post of the SRC chairman. According to the accusation, the SRC employees received salaries but were not going to work, it is difficult to understand Gagik Khachatryan’s relation to it,” he said, adding that Khachatryan left his treatment and arrived to Armenia knowing that criminal case has been instituted against him.

He said Khachatryan made no attempt to flee during the six months while having signature bond on not leaving the country.

“There are no legal grounds for arrest, and I am going to appeal the decision,” he said
