Russia’s law on foreign driving license discrimination against Armenia: deputy FM
The adoption of law by Russia according to which people with foreign driving license cannot work in their territory by using car has created serious problems for Armenians.
Armenia’s deputy foreign minister Shavarsh Kocharyan speaking at the NA Regional and Eurasian Integration Affairs Standing Committee said the adoption of such decision by Russia, in essence, contradicts the Eurasian Economic Union agreement.
The minister described the adoption of the law as discriminatory against Armenia as it does not refer to any other EAEU member state.
Lawmaker from Bright Armenia faction Armen Yeghiazaryan said that an impression is that the EAEU member states get adapted to the decisions of the Russian side, which is a serious issue.
“In the EAEU the decisions are made via consensus, but if one of the member states adopts a legislative act which contradicts the interests of the other member state or the signed agreement a problem raises. In this case, you are right, Russia has made one-sided decision which has put us in discriminatory situation,” Shavarsh Kocharyan said.
Russia’s law relates to all the states besides those where the second state language is Russian.
