Artsakh prepares for municipal elections
Local self-governmental elections are due in all 228 communities of Artsakh Republic on September 8.
Forty-one candidates have been nominated and 1,401 members of City Council of which 7 applied for self-withdrawal.
Deputy chairman of Artsakh Central Electoral Commission Yeghishe Arzumanyan considers the registration of observer organizations in these elections unprecedented.
“Currently four Armenian observer organizations with 144 observers, six local organizations with 168 observers, 12 mass media with 38 reporters and 4 Armenian mass media with 12 reporters have been accredited,” Aysor.am correspondent reports from Artsakh.
The deputy chairman said during the previous municipal elections no observer mission was accredited in Artsakh.
“This time, really, it is unprecedented, we are waiting for over 400 observers,” he said.
Asked what this circumstance is agreed with Yeghishe Arzumanyan said organizations both in Armenia and Artsakh want fair elections.
The official said there is no any tension.
“Almost all the organization works have been completed, the ballots printed for eligible 103,014 voters,” Arzumanyan said.
