I am not the fleeing type: Kocharyan on release for bail

Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan stated at court today that he is not the type of a person to flee the case examination.

“I am not such a person to flee from something. For many and the prosecutors, in particular, it is difficult to imagine it all. If I was the fleeing type, Azerbaijanis would have been drinking tea in Stepanakert long ago,” Kocharyan stated, adding that it is even offensive for him to speak about it.

The ex-president’s statement followed the introduction of petition by his defense team on changing the preventive measure from arrest to release on bail.

As to the pressures on the process of examination, Kocharyan said that there is no subject in this criminal case on which he may exert any pressure. The ex-president urged the judge to read the two episodes of the case relating to him to understand whether he has any motivation to make the witnesses change their testimonies or not.
