Khachaturov’s lawyer describes March 1 trial personal revenge
Lawyer of ex-secretary general of the CSTO Yuri Khachaturov Mihran Poghosyan described the March 1 criminal case as political one.
“The developments over this case do not allow the discussion of only the legal part of it. There is no legal part in this case and two rulings by the Constitutional Court over this case are not accidental,” Poghosyan stated at court today.
He said in the preliminary investigation phase the illegal actions of the investigative body were many times referred to.
“Perhaps the statements of the politicians, representatives of the ruling force are not personally executed pressures, but the whole judicial system of the republic feels this pressure,” he said.
Speaking about the materials of the case, Poghosyan said that the testimonies of 800 witnesses have no relation to the forwarded charges on overthrowing the constitutional order.
“It is a personal revenge. I do not want to live in a state where justice is being implemented basing on personalities. There cannot be a judicial process in Armenia where not the actions but the person is being discussed. We aim to build a legal state, and I hope the court will contribute to it and hence the assessments will be given not to the persons but their actions,” Poghosyan said.
