Israel is an important geo-political role-maker which raises a necessity in opening an Armenian embassy there, Armenia’s foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said at the cabinet sitting today.

“The key purpose of opening embassy in Israel is to ensure Armenia’s participation in protection of rich historic-cultural heritage on the state level and protect its right to be the equal holder of saint vicinities of the Armenian Apostolic Church,” he said, adding that the creation of the embassy will also contribute to the enhancement of bilateral relations and create new opportunities for cooperation, development of a number of sectors increasing Armenia’s presence in the Middle East.
Mnatsakanyan said that currently Armenia is represented in Israel by non-resident ambassador.
“The process will last for a while, depending on us and them. We are planning to bring this idea into life as soon as possible, but I will refrain from saying a concrete date,” the foreign minister said.
As to the place where the Armenian embassy will be located, Mnatsakanyan said there is already an approximate idea of it.
“As to opening Israeli embassy in Armenia, talks are being held over it in parallel,” he said.
