NA discusses suspension of CC chairman Hrayr Tovmasyan’s authorities
Armenia’s National Assembly’s State-Legal Affairs Standing Committee is discussing the NA draft decision on suspending the authorities of Constitutional Court chairman Hrayr Tovmasyan.
The draft decision is being presented by My Step faction lawmaker Suren Grigoryan.
Addressing the committee and presenting the grounds of the decision, the lawmaker said that before being member of the Constitutional Court Tovmasyan occupied a number of key positions like the position of justice minister, head of NA’s staff, chairman of NA’s state-legal standing committee.
“It is not a secret for all that the Republican party has interconnected interests with the CC applicant Robert Kocharyan. The application submitted to the CC registers it too,” Grigoryan said.
He stressed that another ground for suspending Tovmasyan’s authorities is his close relations with one of the lawyers of Robert Kocharyan – Aram Orbelyan. The lawmaker stressed that these relations raise objective doubts whether the decision made by the judge is unbiased or not.
Speaking at the discussion Bright Armenia faction lawmaker Ani Samsonyan stated that their faction backs the draft decision on suspending the authorities of Hrayr Tovmasyan as chairman of the Constitutional Court.
