Vayots Dzor governor resigns after scandalous developments over him

Governor of Armenia’s Vayots Dzor Trdat Sargsyan announced about his resignation following the events in Yeghegnadzor.

The governor and his friends are said to be involved in fight as a result of which an officer, deputy colonel of Armenia’s Armed Forces Ara Mkhitaryan was transported to hospital in unconscious condition. His life is in danger.

In his resignation statement Sargsyan denied his involvement, saying he was at home that time and presented proofs to the law enforcers.

The incident took place on September 17 close to midnight. The suspect, resident of Yeghegnadzor, born in 1991, hit once with fist in the head of the officer. The latter fell unconscious.

A criminal case has been filed. The preliminary investigation revealed that another two officers of the same military unit received injuries.

Ara Mkhitaryan’s friends were protesting in front of government building on Monday, demanding punishment for the attackers.

“Vayots Dzor’s governor with his clan is trying to hide his participation and blame the officer for the incident,” one of the friends said, adding that they demand fair investigation.

“Ara Mkhitaryan is fighting for his life. The chances that he will live are 1%. God forbids he dies!” the friend said, adding that the Vayots Dzor police are doing everything to save the guilty from punishment.

The other friend said the governor is threatening all the witnesses.
