Armenia’s FM voices necessity of repatriation of Armenian citizens from Azerbaijan at the meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart
Armenia’s foreign minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met on September 23 with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov in New York.
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Igor Popov, Stephane Visconti, Andrew Schofer and personal representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office Andrzej Kasprzyk attended the meeting.
MFA press service reports that during the meeting the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues relating to the Nagorno-Karabakh peaceful process and assessed the present situation.
Armenia’s foreign minister attached significance to the actions of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and personal representative of the OSCE CiO.
During the discussion the Armenian side stressed the importance of reinforcement of ceasefire regime and necessity of continuous efforts for reducing the tension including by introducing corresponding mechanisms.
The necessity of consistent steps for formation of atmosphere of trust has also been underscored.
The Armenian side also stressed the necessity to ensure repatriation of the Armenian citizens kept in Azerbaijan.
To ensure progress in the peace process, minister Mnatsakanyan attached significance to ensuring the balance of assumed commitments in the sidelines of the settlement of the issue, reaffirming Armenia’s principle position and approaches over the process.
The parties outlined the further steps to be undertaken in this direction including the visit of the co-chairs to the region and conduction of the regular meeting of the foreign ministers in near future.
