Hayk Harutyunyan’s death to affect further developments in March 1 case: prosecutor general
Prosecutor general Artur Davtyan claims that the testimony of former chief of Armenia’s police over March 1 case would have been opened for public, he was to be invited to the court for giving testimonies while this opportunity has already been lost.
“Questions would have been voiced by prosecutors, defenders, but there is no such opportunity anymore,” the prosecutor said.
To the comment about pressures on Harutyunyan and his and SIS chief Sasun Khachatryan’s names being circulated, Davtyan said, “I am convinced that each sensible person after listening to this hypothesis has understood what orders it is being spoken about.”
He refuted any possibility of his involvement.
Davtyan agreed that the system of protection of witnesses in Armenia should be improved.
As to what steps are being undertaken to ensure the security of other witnesses Davtyan said the steps are secret, they are considered operative-intelligence measures which the corresponding bodies must carry out.
Asked whether the case will have any influence on March 1 case, the prosecutor general said it was a significant development in the case and will certainly affect it.
“It will be seen later, I cannot say anything now,” he added.
