Armenia sees no restrictions in importing gas from Iran: expert
Armenia has two approaches regarding Iranian gas with the first one being the Gas for electricity project, expert in Iranian scientists Armen Israelyan told Aysor.am, referring to the opportunity of direct gas supply from Iran.
He stressed that Armenia has always voiced readiness of direct investments.
“After the completion of the construction of the third power transmission line in 2020 we will sell more power to Iran and will increase the volume of imported Iranian gas thrice. Moreover, in summer 2019 at the Iran-Armenia inter-governmental commission’s 16th session Gas against product issue was discussed. No final arrangements have been reached in this direction till now,” the expert said.
Armen Israelyan said that the official Yerevan has clearly stated its position over the issue of transit.
“During the visit of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Tehran the issue was discussed with the Iranian side and Armenia stated that it does not see any obstacles and is ready to export Iranian gas through Armenian territory to Georgia or any other direction,” the expert said, adding that in this phase it may be clearly registered that there is no such situation when Iran and the other side have arrangement and Armenia is constrained with anything.
