Judicial system collapsed after revolution: Gagik Khachatryan’s lawyer
Lawyer of former chairman of the State Revenue Committee Yerem Sargsyan speaking to reporters today following the judge’s denial of their petition to release Gagik Khachatryan said the judicial system has collapsed after the revolution.
“There was a progress in a short period after the revolution when the courts received some independence, freedom, but now we must register that this system has completely collapsed. These are not just words, as each person who relates to the system would say that the Court of Appeal was the only left instance which inspired hope for making fair decisions. Judge Ruben Mkhitaryan who before this was known for making independent decisions failed this time to overcome pressures on him,” the lawyer said.
He added that Khachatryan was present at the hearing.
Khachatryan is charged for embezzlement in particularly large amount. He has also been involved in other case examined by the NSS and is charged for abuse of power and embezzlement in particularly large amount.
