Arrest of supporters of Armenia’s second president illegal: lawyer
Arrest of the supporters of Armenia’s second president Narek Mutafyan and Sargis Ohanjanyan is illegal, lawyer Vahe Eprikyan told the reporters today.
“The whole process took place with the strict violations of law. The case happened at 8 p.m. after which Narek Mutafyan headed home,” the lawyer said, adding that Mutafyan neither tried to flee nor demonstrated inappropriate behavior.
The lawyer said the police officials went to Mutafyan's place at about 3 a.m. and knocked the door introducing themselves as ambulance workers.
The lawyer said Narek Mutafyan has not received any notification from the police.
“The person was arrested after being taken to the police. There were no grounds for arrest. The same happened in case with Sargis Ohanjanyan. He was not invited either, but taken to the department and arrested,” Eprikyan said, adding that the judges made “exclusively illegal judicial acts as a result of which my defendants are in jail.”
The lawyer said the petition on arrest upheld by judge had no grounds.
“During the hearing the two petitions filed by us were broken into pieces. We have grounded that the petition on their arrest is groundless but judges Artush Gabrielyan and Nelly Baghdasaryan upheld it,” Eprikyan stated, describing his defendants as political prisoners.
