Turkey to continue military actions in Syria as far as having carte blanche from super powers: expert
Turkey will continue military actions in Syria until the world super powers are giving green light to its operation, expert in Turkey’s affairs Mushegh Khudaverdyan told Aysor.am, adding that after getting carte blanche for operations in Syria the end of the military actions seems not to be seen in the near future.
As to why the international community does not condemn Syria’s actions, the expert explained it with non-united position of the Kurds.
“Part of Kurds have pro-Western position, part serves the interests of Russia and Iran. These not united approaches made both the West and Eastern countries get tired of Kurds,” the expert said, adding that Turkey will continue military actions in Syria as long as international super powers do not condemn it.
Khudaverdyan reminded that “Justice Spring” operation was worked out yet in 2011. During that period other operations were also worked out and implemented.
“The Turkish side explains the military actions with intensive actions of PKK which result in deaths of Turkish soldiers. This circumstance raises dissatisfaction of Turkish public and opposition and with this operation Turkish leadership tries to show the people that they are fighting against Kurdish terrorism,” Khudaverdyan noted.
On Sunday, President Erdogan said his forces had already captured 109 sq km (42 square miles) of territory, including 21 villages.
They have also seized control of two key towns, Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad, BBC reports.
