Georgia’s PM’s visit to Armenia of familiarizing nature: expert
The visit of the Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia is of familiarizing nature, expert in Georgian affairs Jonny Melikyan told Aysor.am, referring to the upcoming visit of the Georgian official.
He said no big expectations should be tied with the visit as the prime ministers of the two countries will just establish contacts with each other.
At the same time though the expert said the arrival of the number of Georgian ministers will create good opportunity for clarifying bilateral agenda, outlining new cooperation opportunities.
“In my opinion it is very important that the Georgian prime minister started the regional meetings not with working visits but official ones. Giorgi Gakharia will try to make “revisions” to see the quality of relations with each of the regional states and see where the relations may be activated,” Melikyans said.
The expert stressed that for Armenia it is necessary to make the Georgian side perceive its visions over Artsakh issue. “Of course, the Georgian PM is aware of the situation but after visitng Azerbaijan and listening to Aliyev it will be necessary to give him information in Yerevan,” Melikyan stressed.
As to the statement the Georgian premier voiced in Baku that there are no issues between Azerbaijan and Georgia that cannot be solved brotherly, the expert said, “I think there is no need to focus on this diplomatic step. Having the issue of Davit Gareji monastery complex between Georgia and Azerbaijan, it was clear that in Baku Gakharia would have made such a statement. They were attempting to show that they are friendly countries. As to Armenia, we are a friendly country for Georgia and in Artsakh issue the official Tbilisi is for settlement of the conflict through the negotiations. The possible conflict creates a security issue for Georgia as well thus the existence of any conflict in the region is inadmissible for that country.”
