Charges against Arsen Babayan are related to developments over CC, it is plan G: attorney Yervand Varosyan

New charges have been instituted against Arsen Babayan, according to which he is accused of assisting a group of officials in usurpation of the power of the Constitutional Court chairman, Babayan’s attorney Yervand Varosyan told the reporters today.

“He was reading the text with us, trying to understand what it is being spoken about, but he did not understand,” the attorney said.

At the same time Varosyan stressed that the accusation has nothing to do with reality and Babayan does not admit the charges.

“The charges are related to the Armenia’s Constitutional Court, with the current developments over it. This is plan G. After it will be plan H, K and others. As an attorney, for the first time in my practice I cannot give legal assessment to the text. We have addressed necessary questions to the court but we have not received the answers yet, they do not comment on anything,” he said.

Varosyan also stressed that the supervising body has made a decision to submit a petition to the court on selecting arrest as preventive measure.

“More likely, they knew about such intention and set the court hearing for tomorrow, to discuss the two petitions at the same time with the violation of law,” the attorney stressed.

He stressed that Arsen Babayan clearly knows the purpose of this persecution.

“The purpose is to reach something in the development over the CC. As of now he is in the status of “godson”. Arsen Babayan is ready for any deprivations, even illegal, if it serves for the sake of the Republic of Armenia,” Varosyan said, stressing that Babayan is definitely a political prisoner.
