Court to make decision over Gagik Khachatryan’s arrest tomorrow
Yerevan general instance court is examining the petition of prolonging the arrest of former chairman of State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan.
Speaking to reporters today, Khachatryan’s attorney Yerem Sargsyan said that the parties introduced their positions, the decision will be published on October 24 at 12 p.m.
“The representatives of prosecution’s office and law enforcement bodies were grounding why Khachatryan should remain in custody while we were presenting counterarguments,” Yerem Sargsyan said.
The attorney said the accusing side is grounding the position saying that being in freedom Gagik Khachatryan will hide from the supervising body, impede the examination of the case.
“Our counterarguments are very objective and logical. I have many times stated and repeat Gagik Khachatryan was in Germany passing treatment after surgery,” he said, adding that with just one call of investigator he stopped the treatment and returned, hoping that he would stay for a week and then again go to continue and end the treatment and come back.
Sargsyan said Gagik Khachatryan was not present at the hearing due to health issues.
“Consilium took place, the conclusion was presented to the judge, it was also sent to the corresponding medical center in Germany where another consilium was convened with the participation of world famous professors, they commented on the conclusion saying that they were warning from April that if Khachatryan did not remain for treatment, necessity of second operation would arise,” the attorney said.
Yerem Sargsyan described the actions illegal, as the person is not allowed to continue treatment even in conditions of existence of the consilium’s conclusion. He said the document was not circulated to escape official responsibility.
“Now they have received the response but claim the necessity of conducting expertise,” he said, adding that the person’s rights are openly being violated.
