Law enforcers should be cautious in their actions for Armenia not to be forced to justify at European establishments: lawmaker
All the articles of the Criminal Code which fall under amnesty suppose quitting criminal proceedings, lawmaker Taron Simonyan told Aysor.am, referring to the criminal case against former deputy head of NA’s staff Arsen Babayan and his arrest.
“Now they forward other article on which amnesty is not working. I cannot make predictions what will happen in future. But I have said that the criminal persecution under that article must be dropped,” the lawmaker said.
Referring to the circumstance that as of the moment there are no testimonies against Babayan, Simonyan said that it is very good.
“In the criminal case there is no need to use only testimony as a proof. There may be other proofs as well. There may be other proofs as well,” the lawmaker said.
At the same time he stressed that recently many cases have been filed stemming from political expediency only.
“In the same circumstances in one case criminal proceedings are launched, in the other not. This is a political expediency,” he said, stressing the impropriety of different decisions in same consequences.
“The law enforcers must be very cautious in their actions as we may face serious issues in the European establishments in future having been forced to justify and convince that no one in Armenia is being politically persecuted,” Simonyan stressed.
Earlier today court made decision to arrest former deputy head of NA’s staff Arsen Babayan.
