Persecution signs noticed in Armen Babayan’s case: Gevorg Petrosyan
Persecution signs are seen in the arrest of deputy head of the NA staff Arsen Babayan, Prosperous Armenia faction lawmaker Gevorg Petrosyan told Aysor.am, referring to the criminal case and arrest of Babayan.
“If a person is being arrested under the amnestied article, it is already a sign of persecution,” he said, adding that very soon the people will understand from the trial and its results which element – political or legal – dominates in Arsen Babayan’s persecution.
“At least, it is my personal opinion, the impression is that he is being persecuted,” the lawmaker said.
Referring to the absence of testimonies against Babayan, Petrosyan stressed that in such conditions the possibility that a person is guilty lows, but at the same time the absence of testimonies against a person does not mean the person is not guilty.
“I respect Arsen Babayan, we worked together. I know him as modest person, good lawyer who enjoyed the respect of the staff. If in future it appears that the developments over Babayan’s personality are agreed with exclusively CC and its chairman, it will be a real shame for our country,” he said, adding that it will mean tougher and more unorganized working style than it used to be during the previous authorities.
He said it does not stem from Armenia’s security interests at all.
“I hope this process really has exclusively legal source and legal solution but I hardly believe it as it has been voiced from highest instances that the CC issue is of political nature while the CC, in essence, must be apolitical body. If we see a political element in its formation and actions it will mean that the wish of having really independent court in Armenia is under serious danger,” Petrosyan concluded.
