Authorities inside Azerbaijan not monolithic: expert

Currently interesting processes and reshufflings are taking place in Azerbaijan, expert in Azerbaijani affairs Anzhela Elibegova said at the Changing Middle East and Armenia’s Security Environment discussion on Tuesday.

She said Aliyev slowly takes the country to post-oil period.

“Aliyev has decided to make reforms in the economy and live more modestly. Consequently, the logic inside the authorities must change. In parallel to it the team has started to be filtered from father Aliyev’s staff,” she said, adding that naturally this resulted in the violation of balance followed with reshufflings and sabotage.

“The authority in Azerbaijan is not monolithic like it may be seen from outside,” the expert said.

At the same time she noted that currently there are no serious dangers for shuttering Azerbaijani domestic stability.
