Gianni Buquicchio: Armenia’s CC chairman appeared under attack, pressure exerted against him

President of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio said in the interview with Shantnews that chairman of Armenia’s Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan is under attack.

“We know that in Armenia in short period of time Constitutional Court chairman appeared under attack and various procedures are being implemented against him. The time coincidence and strict judicial motions result in pressure against the chairman who must be respected as the head of one of chief institutions of the state,” Buquicchio said.

He also noted that Armenia’s justice minister clearly stated at the plenary session of the Venice Commission that Armenia’s government has not exerted any pressure on the judges and will not do it in future as well.

“And I think this is a right approach. I will continue following the situation closely,” the president of the Commission said.
