Impression is as if some group wants Hrayr Tovmasyan to be charged and arrested: justice minister

Armenia’s justice minister Rustam Badasyan said there is an impression as if some group wants Hrayr Tovmasyan to be charged or arrested.

“I am always avoiding to answer this question, first because it is not in the circle of my authorities and the second, I do not want an impression be created as is if it will happen by all means and we must permanently discuss the issue,” the minister said.

As to the immunity, the minister said that the immunity acts if the wrongdoing is not related to the implementation of official authorities.

“I speak theoretically. I am not responding regarding Hrayr Tovmasyan’s personality. If X person was a justice minister and was involved in corruptive deal and now is CC judge, naturally there is no functional immunity,” he said.

The minister also stressed that while speaking about a group interested in Hrayr Tovmasyan’s arrest, this group is not among the authorities but outside of it.

“They always want to create impression of persecution, that charges will be brought, issue of arrest will appear and that they are ready to help. I think this is a certain worked out strategy in media,” Badasyan said.
